On the Connections of High-Frequency Approximated Ambisonics and Wave Field Synthesis

From numeric 2.5D sound field synthesis (SFS) it is known that the spatially-fullband technique Wave Field Synthesis (WFS) constitutes a high-frequency approximation of Near-Field Compensated Infinite Order Ambisonics. Recently, the authors have analytically shown equivalence of 2.5D WFS and a high-frequency/far-field approximation of the Spectral Division Method (SDM) using linear arrays. SDM constitutes the explicit SFS solution in cartesian coordinates. This contribution therefore aims at showing equivalence of the explicit solution in circular/spherical coordinates, namely Ambisonics, and the WFS. For that the recently introduced local wavenumber vector concept is utilised, which essentially links SFS approaches to geometric acoustics.
